1.) Contextualizing My Work

·     I want to do further research around a variety of different photographers to help me contextualize my own work as well as categorizing my style of photography.
·     My style is currently fairly varied and I know that by the end of university I will be expected to know where my practice lies within the photographic world.

·     HOW: Read more!!!

·     WHEN: On going, for the rest of my photographic career.

2.) Update My Portfolio

·     In order to obtain jobs in the future, I will need to gather my most suitable and more recent sets of work to showcase my style and talent.
·     My current portfolio hasn’t been updated for over 3 years and the photographic content is not as strong as my more recent work.

·     HOW: Take some time to print out all my work then edit and choose the most suitable.

·     WHEN: Before I finish university.

3.) Presentational Skills

·     I intend to develop this transferable skill in order to get me ready for leaving university. I will be expected to come across as confident about my own work so that I can then sell myself to a potential client during pitches.

·     HOW: Make the most of the informal presentations at uni, they are really good practice!!!

·     WHEN: On going for my own benefit in the future.

4.) Post Production Skills & Techniques

·     This is an ongoing development of skills that will be key when I leave university and have to produce professional work to fit given briefs by a client or employer.
·     Practicing editing skills on software such as Photoshop and Lightroom in my spare time will help me to develop my post-production techniques.

·     HOW: Practicing in my own time!!!

·     WHEN: On going, for the rest of my photographic career.

5.) Networking Skills & Techniques

·     In the past few years it has become apparent that I need to work on my networking as a professional. After attending several artist talks, I feel the need to meet and talk to other practitioners about their work. I feel that I will gain a lot from doing so.

·     HOW: Visit more networking events!!!

WHEN: Continuously in the last year at uni and also ongoing for the rest of my photographic career.

Stock Imagery

I have been asked to produce a stock type image for each of my personal objectives, to illustrate the things I want to work on. I also researched stock imagery to gather a more in-depth knowledge on this area of photography. Below are each of the photographs I took.

Note

I decided that the objectives that I wrote down initially were too technical based and after some time thinking about what I wanted to focus on, I came up with the 5 final objectives.

I think that this is a great opportunity to really bring my weaknesses to the table and try and work on them to in turn make me into a better photographer, making me ready for work after university.

I had to think long and hard to really see where my own weaknesses lay, its extremely hard to be harsh on your own work and way of working. I found it a good experience actually bringing to light areas which may have been neglected or unpracticed. Also, this assignment really allows me to practice things such as my post production and presentational skills, which will allow me to speak more about my own practice as a photographer.
